Chikungunya is a viral infection transmitted by mosquitoes. This test checks for the presence of IgM antibodies produced in response to chikungunya viral infection at the earliest. The presence of IgM antibodies indicates a recent infection (less than 5 days). Chikungunya virus spreads through infected mosquitoes. Its symptoms include fever, joint pain, rashes and headache. A positive IgM test should be followed by IgG antibodies test after 5-6 days for confirmation of recent infection. The symptoms of this infection include joint and muscle pain, fatigue, fever and rash. Controlling mosquitoes both inside and outside the house and wearing fully covered clothes is advisable during the rainy season to avoid infection.

IgM antibody testing is used to diagnose recent or acute Chikungunya virus infection.

Chikungunya is a viral disease transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes, primarily the Aedes species. It is characterized by symptoms such as high fever, joint pain, headache, muscle pain, rash, and fatigue. IgM antibodies against the Chikungunya virus usually appear in the blood within 3-5 days after the onset of symptoms and can persist for several months.

Testing for Chikungunya IgM antibodies is typically done through blood tests. This test helps healthcare professionals confirm the presence of recent Chikungunya virus infection and differentiate it from other similar viral infections.

It's important to note that the presence of IgM antibodies indicates a recent or current infection, but it does not provide long-term immunity against Chikungunya. Proper prevention methods, such as mosquito control and avoiding mosquito bites, should still be practiced to reduce the risk of future infections.
