The Scrub Typhus IgG & IgM Antibodies Rapid Test is an immunoassay that helps simultaneously detect and differentiate IgG and IgM antibodies against Orientia tsutsugamushi (Scrub typhus) in Human Serum/ Plasma/ Whole blood. Scrub Typhus, also known as tsutsugamushi fever, is a disease accidentally transmitted to humans. Fever, headache, body ache, and sometimes rashes are the most common symptoms. An eschar (cigarette burn-like sore) at the site of infection and swollen lymph nodes may also occur. The diagnosis is difficult as the clinical symptoms and signs are similar to many other febrile diseases and have relied on the detection of O. tsutsugamushi antibodies during the acute phase of the disease.

During an antibody test for scrub typhus, a blood sample is collected and sent to a laboratory for analysis. The test aims to detect the presence of specific antibodies, IgM and IgG, produced by the immune system in response to the infection.

IgM antibodies generally appear in the acute phase of the infection, while IgG antibodies develop later and may persist for a longer period. The presence of these antibodies indicates exposure to scrub typhus.

The antibodies are detected using either the IFA or ELISA method. In the IFA, the patient's serum is mixed with specific antigens from the bacteria. If antibodies against these antigens are present in the serum, they will bind to them and can be visualized using fluorescent dyes. In the ELISA method, the patient's serum is added to a plate coated with the antigen, and if antibodies are present, they will bind to the antigen. The binding is then detected using an enzyme reaction.

The scrub typhus antibody test helps in confirming the diagnosis of scrub typhus and differentiating it from other similar infections. It is particularly useful in areas where scrub typhus is endemic.

Interpretation of the test results is done based on the presence and levels of IgM and IgG antibodies. A positive IgM result indicates a recent or current infection, while a positive IgG result suggests a past infection or immunity to scrub typhus.

If you suspect scrub typhus or have been exposed to risk factors, it is important to consult with a healthcare professional for proper clinical assessment, diagnosis, and appropriate treatment. They will interpret the test results and guide you through the necessary steps for management and care.
